Activities and permits in the state-owned nature areas

Most activities in the state-owned nature areas do not require a permit from the land-owner to carry out. However, certain activities do require a permit, and you can learn more about that on this page.

According to Danish legislation, two types of activities require a permit

  • activities with commercial content or purpose
  • activities that require the use of special equipment e.g. tree-climbing with safety equipment, or the marking of routes with noticeable objects

If you are uncertain whether your activity requires a permit, you may contact our local offices in the area where you want to carry out the activity.

Activities with commercial content or purpose

Any acitivity with commercial content or purpose requires a permit from the land-owner. In the state-owned nature areas, the land-owner is the Danish Nature Agency.

An activity is considered commercial if any of the following are present

  • a fee is charged for participation,
  • products are manufactured for sale,
  • the purpose is to generate financial profit

Notice that it is the activity which is assessed for commercial content, not the applicant. This means that also associations and organisations may need to obtain a permit for their activity.

Requirements for application

Only applicants with a Danish CVR number may be granted permission to carry out commercial activities in the state-owned nature areas. CVR is the central registry of companies and entreprises (Det Centrale Virksomhedsregister) in Denmark, and the registration is roughly equivalent to a VAT registration number.

In addition to the registration, foreign companies, organisations and individuals are required to follow all other rules concerning activities with commercial interests in Denmark such as payment of tax and moms (VAT) if relevant.

You or your company is responsible for ensuring that accurate information is submitted to the authorities including the Danish Nature Agnecy.

Payment for commercial activities

A permit for an activity can be subject to payment to the Danish Nature Agency in accordance with the legislation. You will receive more information on payment from our local office when they review you application.
